Friends of the School

All parents, carers and teachers of pupils at  College House School are automatically members of the Friends. The Friends exist to promote the close co-operation of parents and teachers in the educational interests of all pupils. It arranges a variety of activities which run throughout the school year (social, fund-raising and educational), all aimed at fostering the involvement of parents in the life of the school.

The Association is as strong as its active membership, so we do invite people to become as involved as they are able.

• Why do we have a friends association?

  We are very fortunate at our school to have a Friends Association that is and has been such an integral part of the school community for many, many years. In its time The Friends has raised many thousands of pounds, which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children's education and the facilities in school in general.

  But it is much, much more than just fundraising. The Friends exists to provide closer links between home and school, and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents/carers and friend together socially in support of the school working towards a common goal.

  All parents/carers and members of the school community can get involved if they want to, even if they only have a smal amount of time available, and all parents/carers are automatically members of The Friends of College House when they join our school
   

• How does school spend the money we raise?

  Once a year we hand over a cheque to the school; £5000 this school year. The decisions on how to spend the money are taken at our Friends Committee Meetings.

  The Head Teacher will have an idea of items that the school would like to purchase. Sometimes this will be as a result of the children asking for something, as in the new playground equipment (the children helped to choose new play equipment last year through the School Council). At other times it will be for resources to improve a particular area of the curriculum or school environment. In the main the Friends funds are for the 'extras' not provided by the school budget, that make our children's learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting.

  
  
• How can you get involved?

  There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the Friends.

  Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so valuable - it really is a case of many hands make light work'. It doesn't matter if you can't help on a regular basis, or even if you can't come into school. There are always little jobs that can be done if you have half an hour to spare e.g. preparing raffle tickets etc. We really couldn't achieve what we do without the unseen help that exists in school.

  If you feel able, you can volunteer to be a Committee Member at our AGM or just come to a committee meeting.
